Lafayette Warrant Checks
No city police department operates in Lafayette. Patrol and most law-enforcement contact come from Nicollet County deputies, while court status is a separate question.
- Write down the citation number, the case number, or the incident date.
- Search Minnesota Court Records Online by name or case number.
- Search the citation or case number in Minnesota Court WebPay.
- Call Court Administration at 507-550-7032 about appearances and case status.
- Send a data request to the Sheriff's Records Department for county-held records.
Note: A city clerk can answer for city records, and the court answers for the case.
Lafayette Patrol and Warrant Questions Go to the Sheriff
Lafayette posts a county-link page of its own. It says the county supports Lafayette by sending Sheriff's Deputies to patrol through the area, which tells a reader where a law-enforcement question starts. The same page also links the Government Center, the county main line at 507-934-6800, and the courts at 507-550-7032. Treat those as routing contacts. None of them is a warrant search.
Note: A patrol deputy can take a report, and only a judge can recall a warrant.

The Lafayette to St. Peter Court Route for Warrants
Lafayette is the smallest of the county's five cities. Its court business runs through St. Peter. The district court and Court Administration both work out of the Government Center there. The city's county-link page prints the court number, which makes it the clearest starting point for a Lafayette resident with a case question. See the Lafayette county services page at Lafayette county link.
That Lafayette page routes patrol and court services to the county rather than to a city department.
Warrants in Lafayette: The Main Types
Lafayette cases reach the same district court as every other Nicollet County city. Warrant types there follow state rules.
| Warrant Type | How It Arises | Who Issues It |
|---|---|---|
| Bench warrant | A missed appearance or a compliance problem in an open case | District court judge |
| Arrest warrant | A charge filed on probable cause after an investigation | District court judge |
| Sign-and-release warrant | A qualifying misdemeanor failure to appear | District court judge |
| Citation failure to appear | An unpaid citation that reaches court | District court judge |
The sign-and-release warrant is the newest of the four. Minnesota added the limited process in 2024 for qualifying misdemeanor cases in Lafayette and elsewhere.
City Hall Public Information Versus Lafayette Warrant Records
City Hall answers public-information requests about city business. A Lafayette warrant question is different, and the clerk's office is not the office that can answer it.
| Office | What It Holds | What It Cannot Do |
|---|---|---|
| Lafayette City Hall | City records and city services | Confirm or clear a court warrant |
| Sheriff's Records Department | County reports, arrest records, and service attempts | Recall a warrant a judge issued |
| Nicollet County District Court | The case, the charge, and the warrant status | Give legal advice about a case |
Lafayette Warrant Records: What They Show
A Lafayette case that lands in district court holds the same fields as any other Nicollet County file.
| District court file number | The case key, formatted like CR-25-0000 |
|---|---|
| Citation or complaint date | Separates the original notice from later warrant action |
| Offense | The charge filed in the case |
| Warrant reason | Failure to appear or a release-condition violation |
| Bail and release conditions | Stated in the warrant and recorded in the case file |
| Status | Active, served, recalled, or inactivated |
The City Clerk Contact Form Is Not a Warrant Lookup
The city contact page offers a form with Customer Support, City Clerk, and Water Department options, plus a public-record notice. It is a routing form for city business. A message sent through it reaches city staff in Lafayette, not the district court, and it changes nothing about a case.
- Use the city form for city records, utilities, and city services.
- Use the court for appearances, recalls, and warrant status.
- Use the county data request for sheriff-held reports.
Note: The right form depends on which office holds the record, and one form does not cover all three.
Lafayette Warrants and Nicollet County
Lafayette ranks smallest among Nicollet County's five cities. With no police department of its own, the county sheriff handles its law enforcement.
Warrant flow: Lafayette citation › Nicollet County District Court › Nicollet County Sheriff › statewide court records
For the wider county picture, including the jail, records requests, and the Most Wanted feature, see the Nicollet County warrant records home page. Lafayette cases sit inside that framework.
Lafayette's Short City Hall Hours and Emergency Routing
Lafayette City Hall keeps short hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 to 10:00 a.m., so a records visit has a narrow window. The county offices in St. Peter stay open longer on weekdays. The city also describes a county-wide emergency system. Emergencies go to 911, and the county dispatch non-emergency number is 507-934-7100. Dispatch routes police, fire, and county operations. It is not a court line and not a warrant lookup.
Note: Check the city office hours before a records visit, because the counter closes before noon.
No Local Lafayette Warrant Search or Court Portal
The city posts no Lafayette police warrant database, no municipal court portal, no warrant app, and no published warrant list.
Where to look instead: Minnesota Court Records Online for the case record, Court Administration at 507-550-7032 for warrant and appearance questions, and the Sheriff's Records Department at 507-934-7100 for county-held records.
The Nicollet County Most Wanted page is a countywide public-safety feature, not a Lafayette roster. A missing name there is no clearance.
Accessing Lafayette Warrant Records
City, county, and court records each follow an access rule, and each starts from the presumption that government data is public. Lafayette records are no exception.
Key Rules:
Minnesota Government Data Practices Act §13.03 - public presumption, inspection without charge, and copies at 25 cents a page for the first 100 pages.
Minnesota Statutes §13.82, subd. 19 - an arrest-warrant index stays confidential until custody, service, or an appearance in court.
Minnesota Statutes §260B.171 - juvenile records carry stricter protection than adult records.
A written request should name the case, the date, and the record type.
